Up to 50 sources on a figure, an event, or a place, 1,000 pages each. Scans with no text layer are transcribed page by page, historical handwriting included.
Our system copies those words straight out of the document and throws away anything that is not a character-for-character match.
Every quote opens the document at that page with the passage highlighted, the typed-out text beside the scan.

When a figure says something hard about slavery, or the Holocaust, or a founder, the department head can open the scanned page in front of whoever is asking. That is the answer no general-purpose chatbot has.
What we measured
Running inside Humy with the documents attached, the same model passed 97% more of our benchmark’s rubric checks than it did with no documents: 58.2% against 29.6%. Then we checked every quote it produced.
Humy internal benchmark, August 2026: one configuration, 1,250 questions, and the 1,323 quotes it produced. One citation among them opened nothing, and we report it rather than round it away. The benchmark measures sourcing, not what a student learns.
What that does not cover: the sentences around a quote are still written by the AI. Loading the documents cut outright invention from 22.6% of answers to 12.2%, which still leaves about one answer in eight carrying a wrong date or reference in that surrounding text. The quote itself is always real. Read the benchmark.

A link or a QR code, and the class is working. No emails, no passwords, no rostering, no Clever or ClassLink. Browser only, so it runs on whatever is in the room, and figures drop into Canvas, Google Classroom, or Schoology.

Humy is a web-based educational platform and the successor to Hello History. It enables students to have in-depth conversations with over 1,200 AI-powered historical figures. A figure can be given an archive of primary sources — letters, speeches, scanned books, photographs — which it searches during the conversation and quotes with a reference back to the document. Unlike general-purpose AI tools, Humy is purpose-built for historical work: students can open the cited source and read the passage in its original context.

No. Student data is never used to train AI models and is not shared with any third parties for training purposes.
No. Students access Humy through teacher-shared web links or QR codes — no student accounts, emails, or passwords, ever. Teachers choose per activity between fully anonymous access and a name-only mode for graded work.
Teachers choose the access mode per activity. For graded assignments, students enter their first and last name before starting — nothing else — and their submissions appear under that name in the teacher's dashboard. For open exploration, teachers can allow fully anonymous access instead.
No. Because students access Humy through teacher-shared links, classes are running within seconds without rostering or SSO setup. Teachers and admins sign in with Google, Microsoft, or Apple, and school-account SSO (via Auth0 by Okta) is available on request for districts that want it.
Humy offers over 1,200 AI historical figures spanning world history, U.S. history, civics, science, and more — including scientists like Einstein, Marie Curie, and Newton for STEM classes. Teachers also get 90+ AI tools for lesson planning, auto-graded assignments, DBQs, and content creation across subject areas.

Yes. Teachers can attach up to 50 sources to a figure — scanned books and articles, handwritten letters, paintings, photographs, audio recordings, even 3D-scanned artifacts — and organize them in the Sources workspace. Each source can stay private to your account, be shared across your school or district, or be listed in the Community library for every teacher on Humy. Figures can also draw on sources curated by the Humy team. Scans without a text layer are transcribed page by page, including historical handwriting; transcription uses credits and you approve an estimated cost before any page runs.
Yes. Teachers and school admins choose which models students can use in chat, and which one is the default, from a roster spanning OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google: GPT-6 Luna, GPT-6 Sol, GPT-6 Astra, GPT-OSS 120B, Claude Sonnet 5, Claude Opus 5.5, Gemini 3.8 Flash, Gemini 3.1 Pro, and Gemini 3.5 Flash Lite. Live voice calls of up to 10 minutes run on Gemini 3.8 Live, and page-by-page transcription of scans, including historical handwriting, uses Gemini 3.1 Pro. Every figure names the exact model it is using before the first message, on a short “How to use AI responsibly” screen that also shows how many sources it draws on and who created it.
Difficult chapters are treated as history to be examined, not roleplay to be improvised. Figures answer from curated sources rather than the open web, and teachers control which figures students meet, at what reading level, and with what instructions. Every conversation is logged for teacher review, and messages flagged as inappropriate are blocked and highlighted in the teacher's conversation log.
Yes. Admins have oversight across their school or district workspace, including every teacher's assignments and figures. Teachers see all student conversations in their classes, with auto-generated summaries for reviewing a whole class quickly, and graded submissions can be exported as PDF or DOCX — including the full chat transcript — for records or parent conferences.
Only if one of your own teachers puts it in front of them. Teachers on Humy can share figures, sources, assignments and collections through the Community library, but students can't browse it. A shared item reaches a class only when its teacher assigns it or shares its link, and students never see who made it. Before another school can see a shared item, an AI checks its text and images. Nobody at Humy approves items first, so any teacher can report one, and when we take an item down, every copy other schools made of it is archived too. Your teachers decide who can use their own work: only them, your school, or every teacher on Humy.
